Palintest Introduces simple “pushbutton” 0-10 PPM digital testing!!
Great news....after years of hearing our field requests for higher PPM testing ranges on existing digital test kits, Palintest proudly introduces extended range (up to 10 PPM) digital chlorine testing.
This is fantastic news for CES Customers, CES Field Staff, and Technicians alike. Previously, DPD (the actual DOH-mandated test method) used for chlorine testing in Florida was limited to 5 PPM as the high limit to the testing range.
Palintest should know about DPD testing. One of its founders, Dr. Thomas Palin, is widely known as the inventor of the DPD method. Read up on the History of Palintest.
This evolutionary change should remove one of the common and major objections to the use of Palintest Photometers and to all water analysis systems in general.
Since the DOH code now allows chemical levels up to 10 PPM in pools and spas, someone testing a body of water with a level greater than 5 PPM would receive the >mgl/ppm display on their Palintest unit. You would then need to conduct a dilution (1 ml syringe of pool water with the rest of the 10 ml sample bottle being filled with de-ionized or bottled water) and then multiply the Palintest meter result by 10. Therefore, if someone performed a dilution on a >mgl/ppm sample, conducted a repeat test with a “dilution” sample....and received a test result of .93 Chlorine....they would have an actual reading of 9.3 PPM chlorine in the pool. Dilution testing is not difficult to do, nor is it inaccurate...it was just one additional step in the testing of the pool. One step that most customers will not need to take any longer!!
This new product advancement actually consists of two distinct components: New Advancements to the Palintest 9 and Palintest 25 Test Kits, and new Extended Range reagents. Effective immediately, the Pooltest 9 Plus and the Pooltest 25 Plus instruments as well as reagents are available for sale directly from CES.
Palintest 9 and Palintest 25 instruments: Effective today, all new instruments will contain both the current 0.01 to 5.00 ppm Chlorine tests as well as the new Extended Range 0.01 to 10.00 ppm test. The Extended Range test will become the default test when selecting a test via the keypad. The 0.01 to 5.00 range test can be selected via the Test Menu or via the Test Number entry method. There are new Part Numbers for the instruments, but the pricing will remain the same through 2008.
Existing Pooltest 25 Professional instruments can be upgraded with program and calibration files loaded via the USB port connection. The cost of this upgrade from CES is $37.50.
Most all existing Pooltest 9 Professional instruments can also be upgraded if desired. The instrument will need to be returned to one of the three US Palintest Certified Regional service centers for upgrade. The Service Centers are located in Florida, California, and Indiana. CES proudly serves as the Florida Service Station handling portions of the Eastern US, along with the Caribbean.
If you are interested in receiving a quote or wish to send your Pooltest 9 Professional back for upgrade, please contact (800) 940-1557 extension 110, or email at varruza@cesmail.org. We will issue an RMA so that your upgrade request will be expedited.
Palintest Extended Range Reagents: The 2nd part of this new product enhancement is the patented 0.01 - 10 PPM Extended Range Reagent Tablets. Like the original Palintest reagents, these come in foil-wrapped sleeves of 10, and have a shelf like of up to 2 years.
Please be aware that although both test ranges are DPD tests, the new Extended Range test reagent is NOT interchangeable with the existing 0.01 to 5.00 range reagent. Although this is still a DPD test, the DPD chemistry has been researched and completely modified to provide the best possible results above 5.00 ppm.
Note: The Extended Range test is not simply an attempt to manipulate a standard range reagent with a wider range, ( and thus poor resolution) as some other testing companies have done for Chlorine concentrations greater than 5.00 ppm. This is the real thing, brought to you from the company founded by the man who invented DPD testing.
There are different part numbers for the reagents and different prices for the reagents that are as follows:
The evolution to the Extended Range Chlorine test, combined with the correct pH readings to a resolution of 0.05 and the ability to conduct cyanuric acid readings to a resolution of 1 ppm serve to dramatically increase the value of Palintest testing for our Customers and in-house staff alike.
Please contact your CES rep with any questions or comments.

The Palintest 9 is now equipped with an extended Chlorine range of 0.01 to 10.0 PPM. This is great news for Customers and Field Technicians alike. The DOH now allows chlorine levels up to 10 PPM and Customers were required to conduct dilutions which required more time and effort. Palintest completely re-engineered a specific tablet reagent to give precise readings throughout the entire expanded testing range.
Both the Palintest 9 and 25 models are equipped with both the Extended Range and the original 0.01 to 5 PPM range. Existing “professional” units can be upgraded at one of the three US service centers, which includes CES. We will conduct your upgrade at our Jupiter location, quickly and inexpensively.
NEW FOR 2008 !!!
