In other parts of the world, the use of a typical color matching test kit (where one visually compares a color to a printed standard) is quite rare. In the UK, for example, we are told that it is uncommon for municipal, club, or hotel pools (leisure centers) to use such a test kit, and more often they use some type of digital photometer.

The operation of a photometer is quite simple. You collect a pool sample in a vial, add a tablet reagent (from a sealed foil pack), and press a button. The unit will instantaneously display an accurate reading of chlorine, pH, stabilizer, or other important pool parameters.
